#Touch tone driven apps

I am actually looking for some hardware/software that could give me
the possibility to build a mutimedia application controled by a touch
tone phone (with either a direct connection to the PC or through
standard phone line). The goal is to put that PC in a kiosk (behind
a class window). Phone sets (in front of the kiosk) would be used by
customers to call in the PC and activate different presen- tations
(images on the pc and sounds through the phone line) using the phone
keyboard.
Yet, we have no prefered platform (PC, Mac, Amiga, etc).

One way I can this of doing this is using a PC with Visual Basic. There
is a custom control called Visual Voice that allows you to control a VB
program with a touch-tone phone.
Visual Basic is definately more trouble to program than one of the
multimedia authoring packages which would be better suited to kiosk work –
such as Scala, Compel, etc – however I don't know if any authoring package
would have an interface to a touch-tone phone.

I don't know if it's still in production but Geodesic Publications put out
a very inexpensive hardware software combination that could be controlled
with cordless touch tone phones called airlink. This product included an
Arexx port that could probably be used in conjunction with SCALA as well
as some nifty IR devices that could control any equiptment with IR input.

Yes, Airlink apparently is still available. I saw it on the shelves at
Safe Harbor's retail storefront just the other day.
That's good news. Airlink is really cool.

Geodesic is alive and well 🙂 Good stuff and incredibly cheap (price
wise).
Airlink was cheap enough for me to buy it just to mess around with,
but it's durable enough for some serious uses.
