#Poor A1200 HD Performanc

My A1200's hard drive speed measures only about 200k It's a Seagate 2.5"
internal about 210megs. This performance is totally aweful ! Is there another
plug in IDE controller out there with better performance ?

I have the same drive and the exact same performance. I usually don't
go by the tests, though. First thing to do is get yourself a good
cache program. This will make a BIG difference. Second, you have to
remember that the IDE controller is processor dependent so on an
'020, you won't get as fast throughput as you would on a faster
machine. At least in theory that is correct. There is not at this
time another IDE controller available for the 1200. I suggest
keeping your 200 meg internally and add a SCSI contoller such as the
GVP (with or with out the accellerator) and get a good external HD.

Unfotunately, a faster processor doesn't help the slow transfer times for
the bigger Seagate 2.5 IDE drives…
The interface is not the problem, it's the slightly nonstandard Seagate
coupled a bit of wierdness on the part of the IDE driver…
My 120M seagate is has roughly the same performance as Alan's, and I have
a 50Mhz '030 Amiga 1200.

The little Seagate 2.5 was made to go slow. Notebook users are cursing
thing all over the place. It's the nature of the beast.
