GVP, Could you please expound on the 3000 compatibility of the 040 accelerator? Hopefully, we can assume, GVP has done some testing on the subject and will pass these results along. What chips, or revisons should I say, will be necessary? Will 2.04 owners be able to use the board? Also, could you possibly give us an approximate shipping time? // Gary Vander Mei on Auto-Pilot \X/

The boards are going through standard testing at this time and the board is intended to be used in the Amiga 3000 computers. We have no information at this very moment if updated chips on the motherboard (i.e. RAMSEY, BUSTER, etc.) will be necessary. > Also, could you possibly give us an approximate shipping time? I have an early 4000/040, I am considering you 40MHz card with the SCSI II option for it. Will I have problems with it due to the older buster chip and or any other problems associated with the older 4000s? Also what is the pricing of this combo and are you offering a trade-in program? "I have an early 4000/040," Oh, you poor thing… You're in the same boat as I am. I'd much rather get my motherboard updated, although Commodore won't let me. The GVP card (if it works in our machines) seems like an expensive way to get around the SCSI problems, and it won't solve the inability to use most Zorro-III cards. What do you think? -Chris

We would recommend that you bring your A4000 to most current status under any and all circumstances, however it will probably have no adverse effect on your use of the accelerator. The retail prail (which is all we may quote on CompuServe) is $1899 with 4Mb memory onboard. Check with your local dealer for his pricing. Trade in? What would you be trading in? Generally we offer a trade-in program from one of our product to a superior one, so a trade-in will probably not be offred. Steve Peoples Marketing Manager

Thanks for the info, by trade-in I was refering to the existing C= CPU board. I guess I might sell it to a 4000/030 owner. C= will only replace my motherboard under warranty if I purchase a 4091 controller from DKB. I would rather not do this if I can get your CPU card with a SCSI II interface on it and not have to use up a valuable expansion slot. Do you know one way or the other if my older BUSTER chip will interfer with your SCSI II's working properly? I have owned several of your accelerators and controllers for my 2000 machines. In my opinion your company offers great products and support. Jim R. Ollick Using AP from Bergenfield, NJ

To paraphrase then, Commodore is considering this a warranty issue only if you purchse their controller card (licensed to DKB)? Hmmmmm. Not nice. I can not confirm or deny the Buster issues for you ate the moment. Engineering is still working on this. More as it becomes available. =================================== I have owned several of your accelerators and controllers for my 2000 machines. " To paraphrase then, Commodore is considering this a warranty issue only if you purchse their controller card (licensed to DKB)? Hmmmmm. Not nice." Precisely. I also own an early A4000 with a crippled Zorro-III bus and an malfunctioning IDE bus. Commodore will not repair it under warranty unless I can somehow buy a Commodore Zorro-III board. Consequently, the A4000 was the last Commodore machine I will ever buy. If they can snub purchasers of a $2200 product like this, then they've just dug a quick grave for the Amiga and themselves. -Chris

Chris.. C= replaced my motherboard, cpu card and the keyboard under the warranty without having to purchase a 4091. C= is also replacing the 120mg HD, but that's on BO. All I did was call my local dealer and ask… Eddie.Ski

I understand that CBM Canada is honoring the warranties… and I've had alot of Canadians "correct" me on this issue. However, I live in the US. Also, some US customers have gotten warranty repairs, but either because their dealer was nice enough to pull some strings or because a magazine published a letter of complaint and they fixed it as a PR move or because they know people at Commodore. The official Commodore US policy is that a motherboard defect is not covered under warranty if it fails to work properly with "mere" 3rd-party hardware; Apparently, it doesn't matter whether the machine it actually up to specs. -Chris

Chris.. I live in Texas, maybe the reason I got the motherboard is that I have shopping on and off at the local Amigia dealer since 1986.. Eddie.Ski

It's interesting to note that Creative Computer's has the G-Force 4000 advertised for $689. So I take it this is a major misprint, or a massive discount 8^) // John – (Who enjoys harrasing the vendors) \X/ Mercury@ins.infonet.net

Take a close look at the ad. I think it mentions a magical 50MHz CPU with a MMU which may well be an 030 based GVP board instead of the 40MHz 040 wonder. I'd watch out for Creative Computers… Daniel J. McCoy // CIS – 73742,3072 AP Engaged! \X/ Rendering while shaking!

Dan: I know all about Creative Computers, that's why I do most of my mail order from Safe Harbor. I called Creative yesterday and asked them about the ad, and they said it was a typo and they don't have a price yet for the G-Force 4000. Sure it was 8^) Anyway, looks like the G-Force 4000 is more $$$ than I'm willing to spend right now. I'll wait 6 months or so when the price drops to about 1/2. // John – (Who enjoys harrasing the vendors) \X/ Mercury@ins.infonet.net

Gee, I called and said I'd take three at that price! They said "We don't know what the price *WILL* be. We don't have them yet and GVP hasn't told us the price" =8()

Is the price classified? (say no.) What kind of upgrade (trade in) will be offering owners of the 4000 '040? (say low price…) Burning the Midnight Toast Patrick White
