Hello:
I am having a few problems with my Spectrum Card and have had no luck with
getting help via your automated Telephone System.
My problems are:
1. The EGS SHell opens a shell in the workbench screen, which is open in EGS
mode. I cannot get it to open on the EGS custom screen.
That brings be to problem #2. THe Docker program does not function. It does,
however, cause a rather spectacular crash of my computer.
I have several other applications that will not run or crash on exit such as
Dpaint4. I also recently purchased ImageFX and it crashes on Exit.
I have been told that upgrading to 3.0 will help but I don't know where I can
get that for my A-3000.
I have 10 Meg of Memory in the system running Kickstart 37.175 Exec 37.132 DOS
38.12
HELP!!!!
Ralph,
You did not mention how many colors you use for your Workbench
screen; you should not use more than 16 in this situation. I am a
bit perplexed as to why the EGS shell opens on Workbench. I have not
seen that before. I do suggest that you install the Spectrum
software again, but use the EXPERT mode of installation. This will
verify that the proper version of the libraries are installed. If
you still have problems after that, please include a complete
description of what's in your system (including revs of Buster, DMAC,
etc. if possible).
I am using only 16 colors since using more caused problems all unto
themselves….
I will try the re-install and let you know.
I have been told that all this will be fixed iin V3.1 of the the OS from
Commodore. Can you shed any light on that ???
Thanks.
Mr. Decker,
As we have been informed, Workbench 3.1 is supposed to support Workbench
depths of up to 256 colors (depending upon the chipset used, of course).
Workbench 2.x has to be really modified to use higher-res/depth screens,
because the code is actually a ROM call; unlike Workbench 3.x, where it is a
*software* call, so it's much much easier to implement EGS (et al) under WB3.x.
