I've heard that VIP is a memory hog; only 32K left for spreadsheet with 512K
machine and that calculations are very slow: over a minute for a small 20 by
20 array. Since maxiplan advertises sparse matrix calculations plus database
and plotting routines, sounds like has the advantages of analyze and the
features of VIP without some of the problems. Anyone with any experience??

I saw MaxiPlan at COMDEX. I was really amazed, it looks like a great
product. I was ready to yell at MaxiSoft for the junkiness of MaxiBomb, and
then they show me all these nifty products, like a program that can record
and replay all your keystrokes and mouse movements. MaxiPlan has sparse
matrix storage, so it hogs less memory, and it did re-calc a lot faster than
the other spreadsheets I saw there. The president of MaxiSoft set up a
sample spreadsheet similar to ones demo'd on the others around the booth, and
his really clicked along. It's Lotus compatible, but it adds several
functions beyond the standard Lotus set: SAY() and COLOR(), which are if-then
based, so you can change the color of a cell (really go in the red) or SAY
something, like "You are broke." Cutesy, but it may be handy.
