#SQL for Amiga

Not just an SQL interface (which implies indirect SQL access) but a fullblown SAA compatible version of SQL will be supplied with DBASE IV and will be the method of choice for accessing it (see DBASE IV article in June 88 issue of computer shopper). They're promising it around August and I understand current DBASE III users will get the upgrade for $175. SQL is a great method of accessing databases and DB2 is getting better with each new release. An understanding of SQL is key to access of databases in the future. This is really the first time that all hardware and software vendors seem to be in agreement on andard. This is less IBM's doing than the fact that E.F.Codd and Chris Date were working for IBM when the idea of relational databases was theorized by Codd. Boy did I go off on tangents. Anyway the new version of Dbase sounds goo.d It would be nice to have it on my Amiga.

What do you think are the chances of Ashton Tate porting DBase to The Amiga? Rick

If I were Ashton Tate and enough people evinced an interest in purchasing a full blown SQL data base manager to the Amiga I would consider it. But it's a much smaller market (even with 600,000 Amis out there) than the PC or Mac market so I just don't know. If we had some sort of petition or something out here to sign I'd sure sign it. The way I see it, the more SQL databases out there the merrier.

Hi, You said that you would sign a petition if there was one out there. Download Ashton.txt from DL2. This is the petition for AshtonTate to port Dbase to the Amiga. Send a copy to your local store and user's group. I would love to have a DBMS with SQL, even if it is DBase. Rick
