Steve, << Daniel, I believe you're on the right track. If the display is totally out of sync, then it's trying to run at the wrong freq.. Running the vmode utility out at DOS should actually solve the problem… Is there a setting for your exact monitor? I had a previous customer who had to get out the manual for his monitor, and make a custom configuration under vmode. He matched everything from his monitor into the card setup, and finally it did work in high res. This happened to be with the Speedstar 24 running with the S3 driver, so it isn't the exact same scenario as you're running with. Have you tried all of the frequencies listed under the Windows NT setup program (56, 60, 70, 72, interlaced) ? If not, it might be worth while checking them all. Also when changing to different display modes that make it impossible to read, just reboot your machine (the reset buton) and press the space bar as Windows NT is loading. You should see a message that says press space bar for last known good. Choose last known good, which will restart your system with the previous display driver. I've tried every possible vmode monitor and every possible custom set up with no luck. NT has also had a tendency to crash on me when (and only when) I use Alt-Enter to go from a windowed command prompt to a full screen one. I'm thinking this is also a video card problem. I've seen ads for ATi's new Grapics Wonder card which provides Windows and multimedia acceleration and so I may just swap this board out! Would you know if the new ATi Graphics Wonder is supported under NT? Thanks for your time, Dan P.S. Thanks for the tip on rebooting and taking the last known good config if the video is messed up.
