Alas, the book has unfortunately followed the Amiga tradition well:
It's a well-received product that has only sold to a select few
who've gotten word of it. If it had made it to a second printing, I'd
likely have done a sequel. But there are about 1000 copies left over
after about 13 months of release, so I don't think that's going to
happen.
On the _good news_ front, though, I'll be starting a monthly column
on the Amiga operating system in AmigaWorld, starting with the June
issue. So the tips and secrets will keep on coming! 🙂
PS: I just talked our books editor into adding a user-group discount
for my book for quantity purchases, so email me if interested.
Who carries the book? I did see an older one, but it is for 1.2, and touches
on 1.3 at our local Waldenbooks. It looked really good, but obsolete for my
purposes now (3.0 user).

Nope, my book wasn't published until 1/93, so it covers AmigaDOS 1.3
through 3.0, and always has! The only bookstore chain I've seen
that's pretty consistent about carrying it is Barnes & Noble, but it
can be ordered from any Waldenbooks or B.Dalton as well.
I just uploaded a file called DAOFFR.TXT that has direct ordering info, as
well as the info you'd need to order it locally.

Hmmm, how much of a discount? We have a pretty large and active user's
group out here, and we love deals. . .<G>
On the column, will it be different from the Hidden AmigaDOS Gems one that
you have had in the March and April issues?

The discounts are up to 20%. I just uploaded a file called DAOFFR.TXT
that, once the sysops release it, will have full info. (I think they
like to keep price info out of the message areas.)
On the column… It will be a similar tone to the AmigaDOS Gems
articles, but I'll be covering more advanced topics in some columns.
And hitting the Workbench a little too.

Including pricing info, telephone number, address, whatever, is fine.
Instead of saying "to order call" say "for more info call". Same thing
but technically gets around the system commercialism policy.

OK, I'll take a look. And I'm looking forward to your column, too. BTW,
how did you ever figure out that one about deleting the ED-Startup file?
That's one of the neatest things I've ever seen, and everybody is amazed
when they see it. But nothing that I've seen gives a hint that there is a
hidden default configuration with that much power.
Well, I figured that one out after seeing ED get a _lot_ dumber
between beta and release versions. So I went snooping around and
discovered the startup-file was limiting things.
It helped that I had a full-time job fooling with Amigas at the time.
🙂 What most people would consider goofing off with the system was
research for me.
You mean all of this could be TAX DEDUCTABLE? <g, from ear to ear>
What is absolutely amazing is that I put a lot of work into ED to give it
all of the smarts that it has. The decision to put the configuration file
in to 'ease' the beginning user into the system was done by someone at
Commodore. Actually, ED has a lot of power in it now with the AREXX port
and the configurability.
That's what was so amazing about it, it was clear that a major rewrite
was done, with all these nice improvements, and then it was mostly
*turned off*. Much nicer now, BTW, I can use it without wincing on
my friends' machines.
Good to see you in print in Amiga World. I know you never left us but
I'd glad you're back.
What book stores carries it? I never saw it.

I have looked for your book in Software Ect and all the local Book
Stores ever since you announced the book. Never saw it. I'm still
very interested in obtaining a copy. Can we order direct from you?
Yep, you can order it directly from COMPUTE. On this pass I'm
uploading a file called DAOFFR.TXT that includes all the ordering
info for single copy sales, as well as the new user-group discounts.
(And I'll autograph direct-ordered copies 🙂 It should be available
as soon as the sysops check it out.

BEER" command however <g>.

Gee Michael, nothing an author loves to hear more than that, except

Too be honest. All those places don't carry many Amiga related books
other then the reference manuals. But lets look at it this way. The book
was always sold out when I arrived. 🙂

Look as I might, I've never found a single copy in a store in Sydney.
Do you know if your book was ever distributed in Australia? If it
wasn't, who can I order a copy from in the States?
