Anyone yet connected a NEC 3Xi CDROM drive with a GVP GForce030
40/40/4? Did problems occur when connecting? Where should I look at?
Do I need to remove the terminator resistance of my Quantum ELS85Mb?
Where is the terminator located? Is it in a socket? The CDROM drive
will be second in line with the controller.
I don't have any experience with that particular GVP board, but it
does sound like you need to remove the terminators from the Quantom
drive if you have not already. The terminators are more than likely
to be on the hard drive circuit board, very close to the SCSI cable
connector. They are nothing more than three resistor packs, which
you just pull out of their sockets. Given my experience with other
GVP boards, you really should not need to terminate the last device
(your CD-ROM drive), but it wouldn't hurt if you did.

I decided to purchase another CDROM drive. I bought the Toshiba 4101, this
one is a lot cheaper. The CDROM drive has a jumper which switches on the
terminator. Piece of cake. But I probably will have to remove the
terminator on the Quantum. It's the first device in the chain. The CDROM
closes the chain.
