Hope this gets you going! Any other questions, just ask away! Laszlo, Here's the 'reprint' of Don's original instructions. #: 27484 S8/Expansion Hardware 26-Dec-88 02:12:25 Sb: #27472-#DPFormat Failure Fm: Don Curtis/SYSOP 76703,4321 To: Peter Rifkin 71500,565 (X) Peter, Yes….after a few hours of trial and error and playing with a sector editor…I HAVE gotten FFS to work on a JANUS drive. I have only tried it on a small drive (10Meg) partitioned 5 Meg for MS-DOS and 5 Meg for the Amiga. The procedure is as follows: Partition the disk via FDISK and ADISK When all that is done, boot the Amiga and use DJMOUNT to mount the drive. Use DPFormat to format the drive. WRITE down the starting and ending sector numbers! Usualy start is 0. Once that's done…and here is the trick part….you need a sector editor. With the sector editor, modify the 4th byte of sector 0 from a hex value of 00 to a hex value of 01. Many sector editors require you to generate a new checksum before you write that sector back to the drive…that's fine..it won't hurt anything even thou sector 0 doesn't use a checksum. Once you've modified that sector (You just changed the filesystem type identifier to FFS), reboot the Amiga. Now, create an entry in your mountlist for your FFS drive. You can call it anything you want, including JH0:. Duplicate the example FFS entry found on page A-3 of the 1.3 Enhancer manual with the following exceptions!!! 1. Change LowCyl to the value DPFormat started at 2. Change HighCyl to the value DPFormat stopped at 3. Change Surfaces and BlocksPerTrack to match your drive if necessary. Now, use the normal v1.3 AmigaDOS MOUNT command to mount the drive. That's it…you now have a JANUS drive working under FFS. It's 4 times as fast, or mine was. DO NOT TRY TO FORMAT THE DRIVE using the AmigaDOS format command…it won't work and isn't needed! Do NOT DJMOUNT the drive…it is also not needed and will confuse things. The Bridge must be booted before any of this works which is the same as when you used DJMount. Don *****

Don, I got it to work this afternoon on 18Megs. It works like a charm. The only problem that I can see is that in the 1.3 Enhancer book the Global Vector line doesn't match the one stored in the devs:Mountlist file on the 1.3 disk. I set it to 1 and not -1. It works. Everything on my drive went properly, except that I had unit=1 and was trying to mount JH0: But it works now. Thanks lots, Laszlo Gulyas

Laszlo, Great! The GlobVec doesn't matter at this point if it's -1 or 1, only that it's not 0.
