What are the chances of some savy programmer writing an IPAS routine to allow rendering/converting 3DS directly to AVI on-the-fly? I don't want to convert flc's. Elastic Reality gives you a choice, and Truespace renders to AVI. Is this idea off-the-wall? Thanks! -Scott Lawrence

Scott, I'm sure an .IXP to write .AVI files through Video Post is quite possible. Truevision has a routine to output directly to their proprietary DVM format, which seems to contain more info. Unfortunately, a separate conversion is then required to/from .AVI for use with Premier, etc. I think it's certainly a wishlist item for 3D Studio to output .AVI directly. I suppose the broadcast video guys don't need it, but .AVI rendering sure would be more convenient for interactive multimedia. MPEG would be good, too. Of course, DPS would most likely not be pleased. -Scott

The problem is that, like a flic, an avi can only be written from one machine. It's much faster to network render and then just compile the avi at one time in VFD or VFW. Greg Pyros

Greg, >>. It's much faster to network render and then just compile the avi at one time in VFD or VFW.<< Yes, assuming that you are networking. I happen to be my own Rendersaurus.<g> And my primary usage is interactive multimedia, so I rarely need PAR quality output, but I edit in Premiere. Thanks, -Scott
