#Fractal Painter & PAR

Re: Fractal Design Painter.
There has been some discussion here about Adobe Premiere and also Razor
Pro being used with the PAR ( Personel Animation Recorder ) for editing
and transitions on your PAR animations.
Fractal Design Painter is the perfect compliment to 3D Studio for those
of you with the PAR who want to touch up and paint on and do image processing
on your PAR animations.
I have the new Painter 3.0 and it works completely with the PAR,as far as
reading and writing. You must set your PAR buffer size a little bigger as
per page 109 of the manual to avoid General Protection Faults while
saving to the PAR.
You can request a specific frame number sequence from the PAR "ani" files
after you rename them to "test0000.ani". The sequence is then saved to
C drive as one file called the "frm", frame stack file. Another screen
comes up to allow you to brouse forward and backward in the stack, paint-
ing as you go, or applying a recorded session of commands to the whole
stack. It then outputs as a targa sequence back to the PAR. Your PAR set-
up screen is merely set to " file name", rather than auto increment.
There is no loss of quality or added artifacts. The frames look identical
from start to finish as far as quality. The resolution is not changed.
It's like having a low cost mini, but slow, version of the Quantel paint-
box-Harry suite on your desktop. I use it to manipulate stop motion video
animation and motion control video which I have captured with the PAR and
TBC-IV.
And Painter only costs $ 300 ( or $ 200 at show price) ! Also, there is
an excellant training tape for Painter from the Mac-Windows Academy in
Florida, 800-527-1914. It is four tapes at $ 50 each.
I justs wanted to share my satisfaction with these products for PAR users.

David,
I agree, a program worth buying.

Thanks, for the Painter review. Im working on using Painter as a cheap Penello
substitute.
Ed
Ed: i use Painter and Elastic REality extensively. However, as much as I still
complain regarding a number of Pennello's features, Pennello is a tremendous
power tool and generates such a unique time-based paint effect, that I really
would not want to work without it. ALBEIT, layers of video post could be
avoided if Pennello included some area delineation tools… not a big deal for
a programmer IMHO!!!
David:
I have been waiting for my Painter 3.0 for two months, time to call. Thanks for
your description.
Bob
David – Interesting description! Does the PAR software allow this frame by
frame editing, or are you calling up the frame stack file from within Painter?
Thanks
Carlton
The frame stack file is automatically opened inside Painter, and another
window appears to let you brouse foward and backward. The only drawback
is that this file is on your C or D drive , and it is very large,
representing all of the targa files dumped from the PAR.
With the new enhanced IDE drives you can brouse a lot faster through this
file.
David.
PMJI,
I ordered already two times XAOS Pennelo, it seems that the people
don't want to ship their products to Holland or ???. I never received anything,
left several message here in this forum, no reaction at all… So maybe i try
to
get Fractal Design Painter. Can somebody tell me how to order this
software ?
Thanx in advance
Theo
Theo,
Fractal Design supports Painter in 2 forums on CIS. For Windows platforms GO
ULTIATOOLS, section 6. Tech Support ?s are fielded by Shawn Grunberger
76711,1070. For Mac platforms GO GUGRPA, section 4. Laurie Hemnes 73140,2016 is
Tech Support there. They may be able to help you there.

David, Thanks for the tips on Fractal Painter and the PAR. Your generosity is
very kind. I will be checking this out. The new animator pro should also be
fun if they ever get it out the door.

Hi I am trying to understand how this process works.
To do what you are talking about you need to export frames to
tga's on your local disk. Then in Designer you create a Frame stack.
Then you edit. When you are done you save as a TGA sequence back
onto the PAR disk?? If this is correct let me know. I dont have Fractal
Painter yet but I am considering it if it allows me to rotoscope with
lossless results.
Thanks in advance Bob..
