TxEd V1.3
1 messages in this thread
I just received the V1.3 update for TxEd, and it is really swift (in all
senses). It still has that wonderful requester for the disk access, but there
are about thirteen other enhancements too.
One good one is the "Strip, etc." menu option which strips out the extra
linefeeds (if there are any, such as with CompuServe captures). That makes
TxEd the preferred method for me to read the downloaded messages from CIS
rather than using the slow, unbackable-up capture/view/display in OnLine!
There is a new provision for printing the clipboard, which means when I see a
message I want to archive, I just clip it and print. Neat.
I have also investigated PROFF that is a PD text formatter that Charlie Heath
has included on the TxEd disk for our benefit. It is similar to troff or
nroff that is well known on UNIX systems. It supports macros just as troff
and I think it would be the ideal formatter for using with, say, an Apple
LaserWriter(R) with PostScript(C). You can send any escape sequences you want
to with the ".write" command. There is a 32-page manual which you can process
through PROFF and it works quite well with my Star Gemini-10X. I don't know
if TxEd or PROFF goes through preferences or not, but it ran fine for me
(Epson preference choice).
TxEd/PROFF might be the best bet until we get PaperClip Elite or even the
fabled "TxEd DeLuxe!"
