#Skinning Help

I,
am working my way through the manual tutorials and hit a problem in the
skinning section. I read the comments here about alignment problem and "can not
find skin" or what ever.
I amysing good old Bob, and his parts, so far I have spent an hour
messing about one arrow click at a time trying to find the exact right spot. I
have zoomed so close I can only see one intersection at a time, I have tried
every thing from aligning it so that the two go from just bearly touching to a
slight overlap?
So what do you do now? I really can finish the project with out getting
past this problem. I have gotten the other arm and both legs skinned with no
problem?
Any one have a suggestion be sides spending waisted hours repeating the
same thing trying at a match?

PMFJI, but I went through the tutorial and was able to get old Bob skinned
without too much trouble. Have you checked all the angles? (Z,Y,X). I didn't
have to zoom in too much to get it to work, about the same as a close-up. I
was using the PC version, which platform are you on? i guess the only other
thing I can think of is did you have the correct objects selected when you went
to skin?

Hummmm,…… I thought I had the right parts? Tourso and left Bicept, I
tried for hours and could never get it to skin, I found most other parts went
just fine so I am puzzeled with this one part not working.
I gave up on Bob, and went on to the next part using the Bob.ski. I
called the telephone support line and understand what needs to be done, I was
just unable to get it to work.
I am on an SGI IRIS ELAN 24bit R3000 workstation. The program is great, I
see that it's going to be very productive once I learn the tools. I was
disapointed to discover that the Video training set was no longer available. I
was going to post a request up here that any one who has a set that would loan
or sell them could contact me. I have been waiting for something like AM for
some time, for the SGI. I have Vertigo which cost an arm and a leg…the
"Dommer Special" but found it useless, support is 2.5K per year, all the
powerfull parts are added mod's that cost 4 to 6K each to add, plus the version
I got was broken at the start, which they were going to fix, by the time they
got around to it, they had upgraded it and would not upgrade my broken version
with out back support payment. I felt it was all a rip off of the worst kind
but going aftere a company in another company is just way beyound my means. I
do OK as a free lance artist but not that well, So the SGI has just been
sitting and waiting for affordable software. When I saw AM, I was over joyed at
being able to use the SGI as I originally had planned.

No problem, I hope it is just the newness of it, and not something in the SGI
version <g>. Sorry to hear about the other software package, sounds like a real
rip if they give you a broken prog, then demand support payments to fix it. I
do technical support and product development where I work, and I can tell you
if that was our attitude we'd be out of business. OTOH, your customers begin
to expect better service… <g>

Doug A their suport guy called me and painfully…for him lead me through
the fix which had to do with configuring my system to fit my needs, not a
single bit of the problem had anything to do with the program.
My marks for Hash have to be A+ for both effort and service Even if the
program was not as good as it is, I would have to say good job to them.
I am now happly back in the manual learning the software.
I hope to be doing something useful in a week or so.
BTW did you see the write up in CGW this month? I think Hash will do real well.

I think I misunderstood your earlier post. I thought we were referring to
another company re: the broken program and requirements to pay maintenance…!?
I certainly have no beef with Hash, as they sent an update right out to me with
no hassle.
Hmm, 'no beef with Hash' I think I've just coined a new phrase <g>.

No you had it right, I was not upset just screwed by Vertigo a supposed
highend low cost modeling and animation application for the UNIX workstations.
This was and still is so, if it were a IS company i would try sueing for my
money back.
My referance to Hash was my way of thanking them for the kind of service
one would expect to get for an expensive producrt. If what I have experanced to
date is any indication of how good the software and support are: it's great, I
could not be happyer (sic) with Hash and AM.
