Thanks for the compliment; those models were a lot of work, although much
eaiser than the TIEs. I realize that I am overdoing the backgrounds, but I want
to show others that there is more that can be done in a space background than
some starfield, a planet or two and a lens flare. I have been working up some
different planetary surface materials, and if the models themselves didn't take
up all of my memory to render, then I'd be using CorelDraw!'s "satellite
photography" fractal fill to create some realistic image maps.
I am not so sure that Steve is moving stuff from the Hash Library; the
folks that run the graphics forums won't allow me to upload my Star Wars images
because of copyright issues; but Compuserve has a very screwed up, totally
inconsistent policy, so I am allowed to upload the images in the SF Fantasy
Media forum.

As for the compliments, they are well deserved!

Can the "satellite photography" make the nebulas and starfields? I've alwaysed
wondered how people make those cool backgrounds!
I saw in another thread that you uploaded the projects to a forum. Which one? I
can understand how the copyright laws can get in the way, in for the type of
work you are doing I don't think they should apply. Your work doesn't make a
profit or poke fun at the subject, but copyright laws are very general. Just
glad that the inconsistantcy of CIS allowed for your work to be viewed.
I was going to tell you to check out som of the stuff I've been doing, but it's
been "scrolled off" the GRAPHPUB forum already!

A lens flare is an effect that you apply in an image editor like
Photoshop. It simulates the glare and prismatic effects of taking a photo with
the sun in front of the camera.
The "satellite photography" fill in Corel just makes a graphic that looks
like land masses that have been photographed from an altitude. There are
programs like Fractint that will let you create a starfield, but nothing that
looks like the one astronomers photograph. Other highend apps use effects like
particles to create steam, gases, and nebula. I just cut & paste up a bunch of
starfield and nebula photos and switch around rgb channels, and make light and
contrast adjustments.
The forum where I upload my Star Wars stuff is the SF Fantasy Media Forum,
in the Star Wars Library. Maybe you ask the sysop why your images weren't left
in here?
