Hi, Jinny! Best wishes for a healthy and safe New year! Got your message on materials. Seem to be doing better, but have very limited palette. Most materials in RL are on CD, and I do not have a CD ROM drive. Have to create them in 3D modelling package and import into RL as images. Not a problem yet because I'm not even trying to create fancy materials or anything, still just trying to get the hang of the program. Can now make glass, cast shadows, control a single light source, work with colors ("HSV" and "RGB"). Am working on scaling of images and mapping same onto surfaces. Discovered how RL creates and locates files (which may be one reason your hard drive is getting filled), plan to work next on "environmental reflections." On your curved lettering situation: Did you try setting the radius to zero? Also-if your camera is too close to the object, as you guessed, the ends may curve away from the front plane. Same may happen if the angle of view is too wide (a result of the camera's being too close). — gtm —

>> On your curved lettering situation: << Hi George: Sounds like you are really progressing. I would like to see your files too. I did quite a nice thing with a little ornamental font. I still have problems getting the lights set as I would like them to be set, but I have had more success. I have discovered in S3D, you can use anything as a "texture" I have been using the texture tif files from Corel5, but I'm going to experiment using other things… all add something different. I especially like something that adds sparkle to the material…or rather "particles" for interest… I am also wondering if part of my problem with the curvature of the letters is because I had problems importing from Corel as an ai file as text, so was saving as curves… I cannot get anything to save and import as a 2D file, but will have to see what the problem is with that, maybe not enough detail or something… might ask Nick about it. I wonder if they could make an area for us to upload our things to the library… sure would be nice to see what others are doing… I tried to find S3D today to send to a friend.. they are out of stock at Egghead, and don't expect any more for several weeks… even called the 800 #… so I'm thinking that lots of people are buying it. I know that the program that you are using is more geared to the professional than mine. I wish I could find a 1 day class in the basics as mentioned by Bernard. Sure would help! Jinny
