The evening after I posted my message in this thread about NewTek "siccing
the lawyers on BB" (hey, if I said it, I can misquote it 🙂 I recieved a
private message from RAD Moose @ NewTek, requesting that I call him
immediately, and leaving several phone numbers… I called almost as soon
as I read the Email, and his immediate response was, "I'll call you back in
1 minute" (thus reversing the charges) Once he called me back (it was
indeed 1 minute) he spent a couple hours on the phone explaining in detail,
reading transcripts of public (and I believe some private) messages, all in
a calm, almost passive voice. He even divulged a minute amount of 'burn
before reading' top secret information in order to clarify their position.
I was very impressed with the highly professional and courteous way that he
(NewTek) responded. This is the kind of behaviour I expect from Amiga
developers. The bottom line was that they couldn't let the accusation of
"stealing" go unanswered. He also made it very clear that it wasn't a
matter of trying to hide bad press, but that such untrue allegations could
and would hurt their business. I inferred that NewTek would not object to
any allegations being posted stated that had _evidence_ to back it up. I
have no desire to dredge up this old subject (as RAD said, they consider it
all in the past), but, I do believe it's important to let people know the
exceptional way that NewTek responded to my message.
Gee, if they had replied to me or Black Belt, that way or at least that
FAST none of this would have happened.
Please feel free to call me at Newtek. I am usually in from 11am
to 6pm CST. Or, if you would prefer, leave your number and a time it would
be convienent for me to call you in easyplex.
This is indeed a welcome change in attitude, I'd love to see more of this.
Sorry if you tried to call a moose yesterday. (Moose be real sick,
I guess not having REAL California food in Topeka is the problem. hehehe) I

the new id, thanks). Speaking of seeing… Did you see the new Digi-Paint
3 poster yet? How about the DigiPaint 3 "3D" display? We are working on
additional materials like the posters, displays and demoreels, to promote
our products and the Amiga. [Sorry, the life-size Digi-Paint 3 Paint Tube
Blimp will not be available…hehehe]
I was wondering about the tube picture! NewTek, being located in
Kansas and apparently having its heart in California, using a pseudo-New
York skyline. The Citicorp Center is sortof a giveaway. — Ethan
that's nice, but a simple correction or letter in Email, or a request for
me to call would have sent me running to the forum to correct my message,
i.e. the one that caused all this furor, and delete that same message. I
also would have posted an apology at the same time. Instead, I got a
lawyer sicced on me. I like RAD, heck, I even still like what NewTek is
trying to do, but I'm still not a happy camper. 'Nuff said.
The simplest, and easiest, thing to do would have been for a simple
message to be posted saying "We ain't doing anything similar".
