CDR to AI to Simply3D
12 messages in this thread
Norm,
I tried the suggested process for bringing a 2D Corel object into Renedrize
Live EZ for modification and keep getting a "point" object that appears as a
small x in the viewport and has 0 polygons when rendered. This happens even
with the simplest objects, like the circle combined with a filled rectangle
used as an example in the manual.
The sample .AI file sun.ai works just fine (also loads just fine into Corel),
but no .AIs converted from Corel work.
Any thoughts? I'm running Corel 4.0 and Simply 3D on a Pentium 66 w/ 16 Mb
RAM.
Thanks
Chris

I'm forwarding your msg to Brain Edgin, who knows more on the Corel side than I
do, You'll hear from him soon. Meanwhile, have you centered the object in the
view after loading it into Renderize Live EZ and creating a view?

Nick,
Thank you for your reply.

Yes, I did center it and resize it (move closer) and rescale it by factors of
10 and 100 – still nothing but a small red x, which on rendering says "0
polygons".
On further exploration, I think the problem may lie with Corel or Corel plus
Win 95 – I can't get other apps (HiJaak,PhotoPaint) to read the exported files
either. I've posted a message to that effect with the Corel folks.
Thanks for your help.

Which AI output choice did you try in Corel 4?

Adobe Illustrator 3.0.

If you'd like to upload a problem file in the CDR file format I'd be happy to
look at it for you. Pls send directly to my mail address 74431,3611.

Nick,
The problem appears to be with Corel 4 running under Windows 95 – the same
conversion with Corel running under WFW 3.11 works just fine.
Thanks again for your willingness to help.

Wait a minute. So maybe this problem isn't related to AI importation, and
more to a broader display issue. Have you tried loading and viewing 3D objects
from the tutorials? Do they appear correct?

Yes, I have, and they appear just fine under _both_ Win95 and WFW 3.11.
One problem I have, though, with similar symptoms: in the Tutorial 6 project,
there is a view with a cube and a sphere floating before and above a wall and a
floor. The samples work just fine; I see the wall and the floor and can
manipulate them like any other objects (there is also a Node object in this
view for which I can find no explanation in the manual, but that's another
story. I think…). When I take the floor object (floor.ged) or the ground
object (ground.ged) into one of my own projects, they display as a point or not
at all. Any clues?
TIA
Chris

Is the Display Backface button selected on the Command Bar (it's the last
button on the right side of the Command Bar)?
Also, tell me about your display device and the drivers you are using for it.

I'll try the Display Backface button – it certainly didn't occur to me that
that might help…
>>Also, tell me about your display device and the drivers you are using for

I'm running a Diamond Stealth 64 PCI card into a NEC MultiSync 5FGe, using the
standard Stealth drivers (version 1.02), usually at 800×600, 256 or 16m colors.
Let me know if any other info would be useful…
Also: is there a way to zoom and/or pan the top/side etc., Move views to see
objects that are off-screen?
Thanks,
Chris

Norm: Have you plopped a Default icon into the Viewing well first? Also, I
have had the
same thing happen, but it usually was because either I didn't put in the
default icon to
start up the program, or else I didn't put the object into the well, only into
"Move".
I usually always start off the same way, I put the default icon in, a light
in, then do
my object. If I don't see it, hit the "Center" button, and it will be there.
If you
need more help, I'll see if I can answer the question.
One more thing, when you save and export from Corel, how are you exporting?
