Chris, Yes indeed, the history warping effects in Forrest Gump were done with Elastic Reality. In fact, Elastic Reality for SGI version 1.3 (actually less powerful than the 1.0 of the Windows product) is featured in the Movie Magic "Blast From The Past" episode. The movie magic people interviewed Doug Chiang and Ken Ralston on how the effects were made. Elastic Reality gets more than a minute of total on-screen air time. I was in the Hash forum about a month ago when some had said something about a product which was used to animate the mouth of the dog which was talking to Maggie in northern exposure. Is ER the product that was used there? thanks rr

It most certainly was. SGI ER's audio matching was used to create the effect. It lets you sync audio to the movement of your morph. In this case, in made Mr. Sandman (the dog) appear to be speaking normal French-Canadian. If you like, you can order our demo-cd that has a 3 1/2 minute av clip which includes the full talking dog sequence from Northern Exposure. Just give sales a ring at (608)273-9240. AVI, Quicktime and SGI movoe format files are provided on the disc. Personally, the talking dog thing is one of my favorite ER effects to watch and listen to. Chris Edgin ERI Tech. BTW Mr. Sandman is not an employye of ERI 😉
