Hmm…I just bought Simply 3D and am impressed with it, but I feel that the
program was misleading. Right in the manual it says that drawings from Autocad
are usuable with this program. Now you tell me I must purchase *another*
program? I feel my purse strings being tugged already…
Just a suggestion: can't you upload a simple conversion utility that converts
Autocad formats to .GED?

Please let me know where in the manual it discusses Autocad drawings, as this
is incorrect and needs to be rectified.
As for an Autocad to GED convertor, that utilitiy does not exist.

On page 10 in the manual I'll quote:
"The Object Designer is used to define the rendering properities of objects. An
object is a group of polygon entities defined as a wireframe model using a
modeling software package such as AutoCAD. An object is included into a view
for rendering."
After reading this again, I realize that it does not directly state that
AutoCAD drawings may be used in Simply 3D, but this is very misleading.

Did you not state elsewhere that your other program, VR, does, in fact, do
exactly this? Why not take that part of VR and turn it into a stand alone
converter for Simply 3D. With such a converter, Simply 3D would instantly
become more useable.
Other than this, I really am impressed with your product and expect to use it
frequently. (even more if I could use my AutoCAD drawings <g>)

Thank you for getting back to me on the manual, as I will change it to make it
clearer.
Visual Reality lists for $595. Check that — the new pricing policy just went
into effect: Visual Reality now lists for $299. Simply 3D lists for $59. One
of the functionality differences that justifies the price difference is the
file compatibility issue. Other functionality differences fit this two-tier
approach, and the result is that Simply 3D is a great 3D product for people who
want to get into 3D but who aren't architects, engineers or otherwise educated
or experienced in 3D modeling. Visual Reality is more sophisticated, and it is
designed to give a higher output quality (material effects, file resolution,
etc) such that it is a more appropriate choice for the professional user (such
as Autocad users…).

to say this, but Simply 3D users can upgrade to Visual Reality for $249.

My company makes InterChange, a program that translates between more than
twenty 3D file formats. We've been trying to get the documentation for the
.GED file format from Visual Software. Most recently, Nick has been helping us
in this regard.
If GED was documented, we could add a GED converter to InterChange, which would
bring instant import/export abilities with many other formats such as 3D
Studio, Wavefront, LightWave, etc. One problem, though: InterChange costs a
lot more than Simply 3D. 🙂
