#S3D Stray line on render
3 messages in this thread
I just installed Simply 3D and tried to run the 1st Tutorial. When I click on
the Render button on the "3D" view1 I am getting one single stray horizontal
line that is drawn across the entire video display just after the render
finishes. This also happend on the quick render. I am using a #9 GXE video
card with Hawkeye driver Ver 2.03 in the 800×600 65,536 video mode on a Dell
P60 with 16 meg ram in Windows V3.1.
If I drop the video down to 800×600 256 colors the problem goes away. I find
the quality of the image unacceptable at 256 colors however.
Is this an S3D problem with 65K color or just a video card/driver problem? JD

Standard software developer's response: It's a hardware problem.
Real world: There are no known problems running at 65K color mode. We've
tested it in-house on the ATI Mach 32 and GPT boards, the Diamond Speedstar,
Pro, Viper, etc. The fact that you are experiencing a problem on your #9 GXE
card is not as surprising as I wish it were, but I've seen some pretty strange
video issues come down the pike in my day.
The problem, dear Brutus, lies not in our stars but in our video drivers.
Specifically your 800x600x65K DRV file. If you have a big font / small font
choice, try the other one, as that will use a completely separate DRV file.
Also, try to download later, greater drivers from #9.
I know this doesn't help you, but now that you've brought this issue to our
attention, we will contact #9 and try to help them isolate the problem.

It was set for "automatic" font. I tried Large and Small and it was the same.
No Luck there. I'm going to play some games with EMM next & see if that helps.
I may have another video driver here somewhere I'll look for that next.

That's the info I was fishing for from you. I didn't want to waste my time
playing the video driver game if it was "a software problem." Sometimes it is
the software 🙂
