Jonas I have a modeling problem I thought I'd never have: 1. I'm modeling a part of an interior used for retail and I have to show some of the items such as pastry wrapped in clear wrap, coffee sacks, coffee mugs, etc all of these are no problem to make except for certain container, The glass bottle of coffee syrup(such as "hazelnut" or "Maui Mucho Yukko") Here's the problem: The bottle is the shape of a Bordeaux bottle (or the shape of a Samuel Smith Nut Brown Ale bottle sucked dry) w/ gold foil down most of the neck almost to the shoulder. I created a copy of the bottle, Booleaned the top off one and the body off the other, then assigned light gold for the foil and glass to the body, no problem! Think of the bottle as clear but filled w/ a pale amber liquid (the syrup, yuck!). The label is white w/ gold stripes running horizontally w/ a logo and lettering centered. Non of the modeling or map creating is a problem however when I assign a semi transparent golden glass to the bottle w/ the texture map assigned as a decal for the label the label is transparent. Is there any way to create the label as solid but mapped to the glass or do I have to create a solid label to "wrap the glass with? I'm trying to keep the face count under control early. 2. I have to model pastry wrapped in foil (suchas candied pumpkin, cake, habanero short cake). I don't have a clue how to even begin!! HELP, Gary

Hi Gary, << Is there any way to create the label as solid but mapped to the glass or do I have to create a solid label to "wrap the glass with? >> I've got Tutorial 12-12 Decals open, and there is a description of 2 seperate methods that determine the transparency of a decal. Please review this section and see if it helps you. << 2. I have to model pastry wrapped in foil (suchas candied pumpkin, cake, habanero short cake). I don't have a clue how to even begin!! >> Foil tends to have some smooth areas and some very noticable creases. Adjusting Smoothing groups comes to mind so you can create the visible creases or keep other areas smooth. Anyone else? jonas[adesk]

jonas forever in your debt! When I said pastries in foil I meant clear plastic wrap like Saran wrap. That's what the samples look (looked as in past tense) like. inside the product was kindof like marble cake individually wrapped slices. Any ideas on the organic look of this? Thanks very much, Gary

Hi Gary, << clear plastic wrap like Saran wrap…>> semi-transparent marble SXP material assigned to a slightly larger scaled clone of the candy object with a reflection map?…Anyone else?

Opps, I replyed to the wrong guy and deleted the thread. Can you pass this on? Thanks. Just a thought – use Jonas' idea regarding slightly larger cloned object, but check out the waxpaper image from the world creation CD. This makes a great bump map for lots of things, from visquene to gold foil on space craft. I would use it as a bump to a glass with VERY low ambient and diffuse, high specular, and shine around 80 and shine strength about 95. Good luck

Gary, My first approach to the seran wrapped cake would be to get some samples scan them map the scans onto your objects and eat the samples. Sorry if this is too simple. ME

Max Alas, That is what I have done (but ate the samples first) only to discover that the samples were only plastic….!!!! OH, THE HEARTBURN!!!! Roughage is an understatement! Thanks, That solution of scanning is excellent for this job! Gary
