#Beginner Q's

Hi's… a couple beginner Q's:
How does one return to the sequence editor to switch the image in A or B
roll????
I'm trying to render in Targa resolution, 512 by 486. I get HIIP errors in
any VfW format. Is this just another typical problem with MS's crap OS,
or have I probably done something wrong in ER?
Bri
While not commenting on the quality of the OS 😉 I can say that almost all the
codecs will not work with image resolutions that are not multiples of VGA
(160×120, 320×240) and none of them seem to work at all with res. like 640×480
but I have a feeling it is just as much a problem with media player as it is
with the VFW codecs.

Hi Bri,
Chris answered your second question but in his haste forgot your
first. You get back into the sequence editor by selecting FILE/EDIT.
The EDIT menu refers to the standard cut/copy/paste stuff relating
to shapes, the FILE/EDIT command refers to editing the images
comprising the effect in the sequence editor.

Hello Jason, Thanks, I caught that reply.
Without going back and reviewing the UI design, I'd say I wish it (The sequence
editor) was listed under the 'Windows' menu.
Bri
Bri,
I think you're right. It ought to be where all the other dialog opening
menu commands are. I will pass this on to the keeper of the List. I checked
with the programmers about why it's in the FILE menu, they felt it was
appropriate to keep the PROJECT oriented commands together. That's a
reasonable point of view as well, but I'
m swayed by the straight forwardness of putting anything that opens a
window (dialog) together.

Im 50/50 either way, as I;m a programmer too and understand that, but (for the
next guy) just name it Edit Sequence. But hm… isnt something like
Motion/Transparency 'project' based too? Oh no thats Group based. Hmmmmm. I'd
have to examine the scope of each in the Windows menu now to make comment
either way.
Bri
Jason,
Have you seen the trueSpace interface? All icons virtually no dialog boxes. Its
very nice to work with. Its a real bore when you go to a menu, then to an item
then to a box which leads to another box etc. That way there is no problem in
deciding under which menu an item should go, they are all on display at the
bottom of the screen.
Ken
Ken,
I have seen the trueSpace user interface…lots and lots of icons. There
are plenty of dialogs too though they often masquerade (I have never ever
had to spell that word before, and probably I still haven't) as floating
palettes. I'll send email to the programmers to have a look at it, as your
suggestion.

Thanks Jason,
I think that the tS interface is very well done, with the marks on the corners
of the icons so that you are always reminded that there is a dialog *floating
pallette* option.
I know that you guys are working in ER every day, but I get a graphics job,
which needs a set of tools, and then when I finshed that we go on to the next
job which will need a different set. When you next get a job that needs ER it's
sometimes kinda difficult to remember just where that feature was.
I have it all the time in Photoshop, *I did an effect like this six months ago,
now how did I do it?* sort of thing.
Ken
Thanks Chris!
