I heard that DISK#1 was not selling anymore from the YOST GROUP because of the Lenz Effects through Digimation. Why is this??? Will you offer a refund on recently purchased DISK#1s'??

You're right… I stopped selling our Disk#1 this week because LenZFX is such an incredible piece of software. There were only two problems with it… 1) it has a hardware lock, and 2) the full networkable version was $795. I say WAS $795. The hardware lock I couldn't do anything about, since Aaron felt that there was so much piracy of Mirage that he at least had the right to TRY it. Heck… Mirage was unprotected and he deserved more than what he got. But the $795 price of the networkable LenZFX was just out of the question… When I asked him why so high, Aaron told me that it was hard for him to compete against my Disk#1, hence the high price (which the hard-core production companies would've paid anyway). If you read my words in the back of the IPAS Boutique, it emphasized that my intent was to prime the pump… I wanted other developers to come in and expand upon our ideas. Well, here's where the rubber meets the road for me… I refuse to compete directly with the developers who are writing for 3DS, and if someone comes up with a better product than anything I sell, I'll be happy to take my version OFF the market. When I told Aaron that, he said that he'd lower the price to $295 for 3DS Disk#1 customers (and to everyone for a limited time), and then raise it up to $395 in April. This is $500 off of the $795 original price for the networked version! (The non-networked version is being discontinued permanently.) So, you can think of it as a $500 refund on Disk#1. And since you only paid $300 for it, you just came out $200 ahead! Talk about a win win situation. – G PS: I hope to see a LOT of work done with LenZFX submitted to us for this year's Siggraph tape. (But you probably already figured that out.)

That's very nice of you. What about the routines Stars II and the Monochrome Filter, there is nothing like them in LenZFX?

Since LFX doesn't have Stars and a monochrome filter, I'm going to upload those two routines here to the forum within the next couple of days.

Wow! That's all I can say, Gary. I know you hate this kind of talk, but it's examples of this stepping in and helping everyone that make you my god (well, okay, one of them. How about that?). Anyway, as you know, I'm a Disk #1 owner (and #2, 3, 4, 5, 6 — heck, I have them all but can't remember how many there are), but how do I get Aaron to know that? Or (in other words) I want to order the network version at the price you quoted ($295) and I want it yesterday (okay, I'm willing to be a little more patient) but I'm wondering how I'm going to prove to the folks at Digimation that I quality for this offer. Any help (as always) will be appreciated. And it wasn't the key that bothered me in the first place — it was the fact that my two little network machines (my rendering "window box") needed me spending $800. This is GREAT!

C'mon, Mike… there you go with that wacky religous talk again! You've got to realize that it's even more self-serving for LenZFX to be affordable to everyone, and for folks to use the best-quality tools available for 3DS — than it is for me to worry about how much profit I'm going to make from a group of IPAS routines. If fact, I'm doing a mailing to all of my Disk#1 customers letting them know how I feel about this. (That's how great I think LFX is.) The IPAS interface is my favorite part of 3DS, and routines like the new HSC Gradient Designer, Bones Pro, LFX, and the upcoming Schreiber Key Factory and Positron Dynamics package are the rewards for all the work that went into 3DS!

Oh, shoot, I went and reread your message and now see that you're saying Aaron's lowering it for everyone (at least for a limited time). I just got too excited to see straight! Okay, I'm calling them Monday (are they open on Sundays? :>)

Most impressive reasoning. Just wanted to drop you a line to let you know, that reading messages like that really do affirm my thoughts of the Yost groups dedication to the end user. Your going that extra mile just makes me feel better about choosing 3DS and the direction you will take us. It's been a wild ride so far! Also, thank all the people who were involved about letting us know now about release 5 and Windows NT so that we can plan ahead.

>> You ain't seen nuthin yet… I'm smilin' already 🙂 Gary, I finally put together a compilation of 3DS work of late and well… One's in the mail… hope you find it worthy.

I'm looking forward to seeing it, Ralph. This was a great week for me re receiving demo tapes! (I got three of them… from Andy Roberts, Edward Harvey and Allan Steele. All three were VERY amazing — I was blown away by the video post work that Ed used in a very abstract fluidly-morphing art piece.)

Gary, what are the deadlines for submissions for the Sig tape? -Kyle
#152833From: Yost GroupFeb 13, 1995 2:01 PM
Kyle, we'll be sending out the notices in late March, and the deadline this year will be the same as last year… June 10th! I'm looking forward to seeing what you'll be submitting — you've got so many more tools this year than last! – G
