Hi, I have a question about the keyframer. Here it is. I have a door that I want to swing open starting at frame 50. I want the door to be open by frame 70. How do I keep the door stationary until frame 50? Thanks in advance.

I recommend that you do the tutorials. – Jack

You should address your questions to "all" rather than the sysop. The sysop is mostly for maintaining the order of the forum. Your question is fairly basic keyframing. Review chapter 8 on Keyframing and then, as Jack stated, try the tutorials #14. Ref: 3DSr4 manuals

I had the same problem with doors. Read in your Keyframer chapter about Tens/Cont/Bias control. When your key spline has a curve to it (the default), you will get a "wagging" effect with your door just before it opens. You need a more linear effect that will appear as a very angular key spline after adjusting your tension, continuity and bias.

Mark, Click on track info, then on the door. Copy the rotation keyframe at 0 (assuming there are no keyframes for the door between 0 and 49) to 49. This will keep the door in its original rotation until 49 and begin the rotation at 50. When the computer calculates the "tweens" between keyfames it uses the spline path in the key info dialogue box. From the track info window enter the key info dialogue box by clicking on keyinfo (at the bottom of the window) and then click on the rotation keyframe at 49. You will see a spline on the right. move the "cont" slider to 0 at frames 0 and 49. This will eliminate the wobbling you would see when you play back the animation at those frames. Good luck – be sure and go through the tutorials on track info and keyinfo. -Kevin McTiernan AAST
