#IK- Question ..
10 messages in this thread
Jonas pointed me in your direction for thoughts on the
following msg I posted earlier:
> I have been experimenting with IK rather diligently for a while.
Have gone through all available written material on the
subject,(Tutorials, Prj Files, Supplement tutorials, Inside 3DS rel4
). With that in mind, I still have one problem, I downloaded a prj.
file from the library yesterday ( Planet Studio IK-Woman ), in it the
mesh 'squats down and rises back up. The main object in the model is
the Center dummy. I am completely unable to duplicate this result.
Could you explain how the end "leaf objects (i.e Feet ) stay in place
while the Main object (Center Dummy/torso) move down and up. Is there
a way to lock the leaf objects in place while the rest of their
'parents' move ?
I would really appreciate your's or anyone elses input on this. I have
a project the involves a Panther that must lower it's body to the ground, and
then move forward in a classic cat style hunting sequence. <
Any help would be greatly appreciated..
Brendan
Hi Brendan,
<< I downloaded a prj. file from the library yesterday ( Planet Studio
IK-Woman) >>
yup, I know that one 🙂
Say you've got a chain of objects that goes like this:
Center_Dum
Upper_Leg
Lower_Leg
Foot
Toe
Toe_Dummy
You have to move the Center_Dum Object down to where it will
be when she is bending down before you change the position/rotation
of the feet. Then set the chain from Upper_Leg to Foot to follow the
ground plane for your frame segment. By excluding Center_Dum from
your chain when you tell it to follow the ground plane, IK will not
affect Center_Dum's movement, and will rotate the upper leg and lower
leg accordingly.
For a much more detailed description of the technique, check out the
January/Febuary issue of Planet Studio.
Kyle,
Thanks for the input. I will definately check out the 'Planet' .
By the way how can I subscribe ?
B-
Brendan,
I'm not directly involved with that aspect of Planet Studio. However, you can
contact the Editor – Barbra Gefvert @ 76376,2135. She'll be able to help you.
glad I could help

Brendan,
If you call 800/441-4403 and ask for ext. 362, Debbie will be glad to help you
with a subscription. For written info in the meantime, check out the
PLNTST.TXT file in the Take 5 libraries; it covers just about everything!
Thanks for your interest. Let me know if you have questions…

Hi Barbara! Say, Could you update us on the current state of affairs
regarding Planet Studio, I, as a dealer also found it hard to justify
the $60 Subscription Price and we handed a lot of the promo copies
out to over 150 people at our August 3D Artists Conference without a
word. Yet no one I've recontacted since then has subscribed.
Perhaps If you enlighten us as to what that "Product" actually is in
it's current shipping state, we may feel like letting go with some
cash….still for animators just starting out $60. bucks is still $60
bucks…let me see that's also a Magic or Bubbles Routine, 6 each
2Gigabyte DAT Tapes, I could go on but I think you get my drift. How
many Pages, What Kinds of Articles are now being done…what's with
Planet Studio.?? <g> Murph'
I'm on a hiatus from Planet Studio but I can tell you that the next
issue is going to be worth pretty close to that much in writings on
scripting alone, if that is any interest to you.
John, >> the next issue is going to be worth pretty close to that

<< I sure hope so, I really want Planet Studio to make it, I just had
a hard time with the original sample coming under fire. We all have
to feel that we're getting Value Received. <BG> Murph'
James,

Sure I understand, and scripting may not be of interest to everyone, but a
valiant effort (no kidding) is being made to provide in depth coverage on those
aspects of 3DS which seem of most interest. Barabra likes feedback and topics,
so feel free to leave some suggestions.
John
In the Take 5 libraries you can find a file called PLNTST.TXT that
gives an update of the newsletter and a list of articles published in
the most recent issue (Jan/Feb). (The next issue will be out in a
couple weeks.) The library file should answer at least some of your
questions; let me know if you have others.
One thing we did wrong with the 8-page intro sample was to make clear
that it was *just a sample.* We're running 16 pages now, and, thanks
to feedback, the publication has evolved to be far more useful and
substantial (at least we got lots of nice comments on Jan/Feb, which
was our second full issue).
