#Material problems

I made a 3D drawing of a subway station using AutoCAD R13 made from several
solid boxes unioned together and imported it into 3D Studio to be rendered. I
ran PC Paintbrush program to draw a tiled wall to be used as material to be
applied to the subway station's walls but I ran into problems. I chosed the
material, assigned the material to faces, scaled the mapping icon, and applied
the icon to the faces. I tried detaching the faces but it didn't work. Jeffrey.
Might be interesting to check to see which direction the face normals are
pointed in. Assuming that you do not have Yost Disk #7, Have you tried
rendering the objects with default materials to see if the faces exist?
If so next you might try Surface/Mapping/Adjust/Bitmap Fit and then use the
center command to locate the map icon. If that still doesn't work you might
try scaling the map icon drasticly large and small. Make sure "face map"
is not selected in the Materials Editor. Check that you have assigned
"Tile" in your Mapping Parameters in the Materials Editor. Hope some of this
helps <g>.

Jeff,
Try selecting the faces, and detaching them into an object. You now
have two choices
1) make the mapping coordinates the size of the object, and use the
tile settings to adjust how the image repeats along the x and
y axes.
TIP: instead of repeating this for every adjacent wall, keep
the mapping coordinates size and tiling settings the same,
and rotate the coordinates flat to the adjacent walls, this
ensures that the tile lines will line up perfectly.
2)scale the mapping coordinates to the size you want each tile to
appear and apply it. Use bitmap fit to get the proportions of the
mapping coordinates correct. When using this method the tile settings have
to be x=1, y=1.
Check your image to be sure that it is exactly the size you want – no extra
balck border or space around it. Try "FORCE TWO SIDED" on the render dialogue
box.
Dear Kevin, I made a new drawing of the subway station made from several solid
boxes but didn't combine them into one object and it worked. I made three
bitmaps and applied them to walls and platform. Jeffrey.
