Speak out! Those of you who have Truevision frame buffers might like
to voice concern to Truevison over the fact that they are not
considering drivers for NT! Ouch! Bill
Damn good point Bill, where are you voicing your concern, over in the
Truevision section? (Obvious answer but there might be an even more direct
approach.)

I second your vote. Where are we writing?
I just wonder what D/Vision is going to run with? The 2000? If so I hope they
hurry with the PCI version, I thought it odd to release a new product that
required an EISA bus. And even if it is the 2000 who supports it in NT,
D/Vision?

That was mentioned as the board which will be used but as that board runs at
640×480 I wonder if there's not a new version in the wings.
I've got a meeting tomorrow, hopefully more detail will emerge.
Its products like this and 3DS which are going to drive the professional market
onto the NT OS. I find it very encouraging.

dont know about D/Vision but Kevin Krell msgd me that there will be support for
the 2000 under NT.

In case you were interested in an update to the D/Vision for NT, its even more
astounding that one might expect. Apparently there will be 3 different versions
available initially. The code name for the product is Bermuda. <g> Conjures up
all kinds of interesting possibilities. But here's the unofficial version, they
intend on have a Matrox version running on an Ill Pro for the high end, a Targa
2000 for the middle and a DVPro on the low end. Yes I know hard to believe,
but and here's the kicker, their goal is hardware independence, so as new
compression boards etc. become avialable 3rd parties can write their own
drivers and plug in. Sounds like somebody else has figured out the genius of
3DS. <BG>
If it gets any wilder than this, I just can't imagine.

I think Autodesk and the Yost Group ought to do a little "leaning" on
Truevision!

I did so today, but didn't see any messages from any Asofters, maybe I
looked in the wrong place. <g> I used the Truevision section, saw a few
messages about the plan not to develop NT drivers for Targa in the thread "NT
drivers for 16/32" and put in my two cents. It'd be great if Asofters made a
lot of noise.

Truevision has changed SO MUCH since the days in which they helped us put
Targa/Vista support into 3DS that it's an entirely different company. All of
my old contacts are gone, and I'm not happy about it.

Hopefully, not so much that they forget how many 3DS users there are with Targa
and Vista boards in their systems. I'm slightly distressed that my high cost
frame buffers might not work under my future OS.

While you're pressuring the guys, make sure you refer to the incredible WIDE
base of installed NT systems and how much profit that's gonna generate for
them.. (Damn, I'm hot tonight. Sorry, couldn't help it, you how I'm when my
sarcasm-meter rings..)

Well, who's left at ol' cannibalized Truevision? Pete Birkel is still
doing drivers, but they've got him swamped. I'm not sure who assigns priority
to his projects. Carl Calabria is back in Indianapolis, Cathleen Asch is still
around, probably at Rasterops in CA. Greg Grena is still doing support from
Colorado. That's about all I remember from the real old crowd.

Take up a collection for a plane ticket and I'll go! Tomorrow (Friday) I will
begin my quest for an internal channel to someone at Truevision. Since my
"other" job is with AT&T maybe I can find a "backdoor". We shall see.

I'll post a message there as well. I've kept my T32 after thinking of getting
rid of it twice, but I keep finding useful things for it. Just being able to
output FLICS is a nice feature. <g>

From what I read in their forum, they are only supporting the 2000 and only
through reseller and developers, not from Truevision direct.

and developer support. I really dont want to dump my Targa yet so will end up
dedicating one or two machines to remain DOS happy and move towards the NEW
direction. I suppose this was inevitable but once again I'm not ready for the
change. At least via networking the overall impact will be somewhat minimized
by allowing me to have different machines for different tasks. What ever
happened to Open System Architecture?

done. Ask for dual monitor support as well. (like on the Mac) It'd be great
running the Targa as an NTSC monitor, and viewing actual NTSC colors, and
having accelerated 3D stuff for 3DS on the primary screen all at the same time.
Windows on a Targa in NTSC mode stinks. Worse than regular VGA..

Agreed. 3DS made the Targa what it is. Truevision owes it to "us".
