Can anyone tell me what animation software is available for IBM PC to do full
screen 2D animation? Preferably from scanned images. Most of what I've seen or
read about have all been limited to something like 320×240 with any degree of
fluidity. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It depends on if you want 8 or 24 bit color. At this time, I don't know of
any 2D animation software under $15,000 that does 24 bit color. Azeena
Technologies Animation Paintbox does full screen at 256 colors, but if you
don't have a ton of RAM, (like about 64meg), doing anything longer than 40-60
frames is out. There is a DOS app from Autodesk called Animator Pro, but it
also only does 256 colors. Autodesk was working on with a Windows program
similar to Adobe Premiere that would do 24 bit 2D animation and allow you to
mix sound, but I don't know if it's been released. Tempora makes a DOS app that
does 24 bit color, but for the price, I thinks it's about $600, I didn't think
it was worth it.
Adobe Premiere will let you import a series of images and let you add
sound and transistional effects, then out put as Quicktime or .AVI. I have an
early version, the new Windows version allows up to 99 stereo sounds. It is a
very simple app to learn, you can be an expert in less than an hour.
If you want to create anims from scans, you might try Dave's Targa
Animator. You can find it in the Graphic Developer's forum. (Go Graphdev).
Unfortunately, there is a woeful lack of quality, 24 bit 2D animation apps
available. Most 3D users seem content to edit anims one frame at a time in apps
like Photoshop. I've been looking for one for 3 years and haven't found one
thing worth buying.
