#follow path
5 messages in this thread
what is the best method today to make letters follow a defined path , say
around a globe of the world? the newest version of 1942 world war ii has a nice
opening secence of this.
the scene is … the letters are coming from behind the camera and rapping
around the world, three times. my problem is getting the letters to follow
exactly the same time/line of the first letter, but delayed enough to see the
letters follow the lead letter and be really smooth through out the animation.
sherwood animations
p.s. its been 5 years since i have done this type of animation and i'm after
using a smoother looking animation, using say tempo, or other ipas, or just
another technical way i have not thought of. of doing the same thing ?
thanks
Make one letter follow the path you want, and then copy the animation tracks
from that letter to the other letters and offset the keys using Slide in the
TrackInfo dialog.

ya , thats what i did, but as the letters pass around the first time there
jumpy, but second time real smooth. i was looking at the animation for the game
1942 in the opening sequence where there logo goes around the world real smooth
! and nice. thanks for the reply.
Sherwood,
Check out my Follow Letters effect in "3D Studio Special Effects" from New
Riders Publishing. It does almost exactly what you are looking for, letters
starting behind the camera, flying to a planet, and orbiting a couple of times.
I even through in a barrel roll.
They key to this effect is to animate one letter and use Copy Tracks and the
slide function of Track Info to handle the others.
