are you te compuserve contact for DPS? If so I have 2 questions: 1> what is the latest version of the software and can I get it on compuserve? 2> I just added a micropolis 1gig slave drive and I am paranoid at the format command in partest….if I say ok to format will it format both drives or give me a choice? I know that sounds like a stupid question but I kind of feel like the software still has some bugs/loopholes and my documentation stops just before it addresses that command option. (the software release is 1.30b)

>>PMJI Michael, I have encountered major problems formatting the PAR drives and have learned the hard way with the formatting of the second drive/slave. DPS suggested to use the PAR application to format the slave, but this crashed my master drive. I tried to format the slave from the DOS command line using PARDRV.EXE -format:s and that formatted the master drive (this looks like a bug in the software). So to answer your question, use the partest like you have already tried and continue through the WARNINGS and the finial question will ask you master/slave and you choose slave and every thing will be O.K. The latest software for the PAR is 1.5 and it is now a official release, not beta. You can get the software from there BBS there number is (416) 754-8368, or it was just posted in the Hware/OpSys/Video section of this forum. >>are you te compuserve contact for DPS?<< This message was addressed to Jamie Carr and he is with IN:SYNC. This company handles a great NLE program called Razor Pro, a must have program!!! Especially with a second drive you can use Razor Pro to produce compositions from the master drive and output them to the slave drive from within Windows (as soon as DPS releases there new MCI divers for windows), Razor Pro is the FASTEST way for doing any type of edits using the PAR. I couldn't find the PAR updated driver in the HWare library, am I missing something?

Michael, The file was uploaded and it took a day or so to show up on the forum. It is called PAR150.exe and it is in LIB #6, at least last time I looked it was there. I missed the first part of your message on the over heating Micropolis drives. If you can you need to separate them, two hot drives together make a great toaster or a muffin warmer<G>. A couple suggestions, if you can stick your 3.5" floppy between them by moving the drives around, and another possibility is to mount the other hard drive above your power supply if there is room (you might have to build a custom hanger, but that area works great). I have not had any problems with the master/slave, but I do have a tower with two fans and there is enough room for the drives to ventilate. My second drive is in a removable/pullout tray with a small fan, this allows me to turn off the drive and to swap the slaves if needed. Mike Morgan, CAD Forms Inc.

thanx for the advice. I'll be trying the fan option and moving the drives… I really appreciate the response…..I'd hate to burn out $1.5k in hardrives that aren't even paid off yet.
