Does anybody here use Term to log onto compuserve as I can't get it to work. I do use Autopilot but I'd just like to see if I can get it going.

Yes, Term should work. But AutoPilot is much better <bg>. First of all: After your modem connected with CIS you have to hit "return" once or twice to get a prompt. Maybe you will have to use 7-E-1 instead of 8-N-1 in your Term serial settings to get readable text. You can change your CIS settings to Latin-1 later and return to 8-N-1 in Term. You will then find some garbled lines immediately after modem connect. I think you can still guess what they mean: Host: (type "CIS" or whatever access you use), UserID: (type yours), password: (type yours). After that (strange, I admit) login procedure CIS will greet you with readable text again. Maybe you can set "Strip bit 8" in Term serial to get clean text from start. I heard that but never tried. Hope that helps, Joachim Sondermann-Bieker on Amiga AutoPilot 1.77 from Cologne, Germany

Mark, you used to have to set the connecttion parameters to 7-N-1 or, if you also want to be able to download, leave the connection at 8-N-1 and set the 'Strip high bit' parameter to 'On'. CI$ used to use/uses only the 7 bit character set so you'd get garbage when trying to connect with 8bits… Don't know if that has changed maybe with the advent of Latin-1 though… Cheers, // Christian "ELP" Busse \X/ near Frankfurt, Germany

I use the following serial settings; 8-N-1, strip bit 8 (tick) and full duplex. Hope that helps.
