#2M Agnus in A2000
4 messages in this thread
I assume that upgrading to 2M chip memory in an A2000 is not simply a
matter of replacing a 1M Agnus with a 2M Agnus, but that I need something
like the DKB Megaboard. Is this correct?
If so, is the DKB Megaboard the only option?
If so, does that mean that users of boards that plug into the CPU slot (in
my case, the VXL30) are out of luck because of space contention?
The answers to these questions must be in some of my manuals or old ACs or
AWs, but I can't put my finger on them. Any confirmation or advice will
be much appreciated.
Bart,
Correct…you need something like the MegaBoard.
It's the only option I know of.
No, the MegaBoard doesn't contend with the CPU slot. I've got a
MegaBoard and an A2620 in my 2000 and they work fine together, and no
interference. The MegaBoard plugs into the AGNUS socket and has a clip that
goes to the 68000. Nowhere near the CPU slot.

Don,
I believe Bart meant the 68000 socket with "CPU slot". The VXL30 is a similar
thing to the CSA Mega Midget Racer which plugs into the 68000 socket so there's
very little space left above the original Agnus chip for anything like the
MegaBoard (or MegiChip or whatever product you have – there's not only DKB's
around…). Yet I belive there are versions of some or other of these 2MB
Chipmem boards which have all components (including the 2MB Agnus and the
additional chipmme) on the lower side so one of these might fit?

Thanks, Don.
I mapped out what I could see of my motherboard a few days ago, and didn't
find an AGNUS, so was afraid it must be under the VXL-30 board, which
takes up most of the available space under the drives. I'll take another
look…
