The following is taken (w/o permission) from the Mouse Systems "PC
Mouse Reference Manual.
"If you expect your program to be used on the IBM Enhanced Graphics
Adapter you should take the following into consideration. Every COLOR
statement in a BASIC program generates a BIOS call to set the border color,
even if you have not specified a new border color. The Enhanced Graphics
Adapter runs for a considerable length of time with interrupts disabled
when this call is made, causing MSMOUSE to miss mouse information. You may
find behavior such as missed button clicks if COLOR statements are used in
conjunction with mouse activity. The only solution that we are aware of is
to write an assembly language routine which traps INT 10 and does not make
the Set Palette BIOS call unless the border color needs to be changed."
I have been asked to fix a BASIC program which has problems which
appear to be caused by the use of COLOR statements and an EGA. Does anyone
have, or know where to get, "an assembly language routine which traps INT
10
.."?
Scrapping the EGA or BASIC are not options at this time. 🙂
