AMIGA FORUM MEMBERS, I WAS RECENTLY GIVEN AN A2000 AND A GOOD AMOUNT OF HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE. MY PROBLEM IS THAT THE UNIT WAS ALL BUT FORGOTTEN ABOUT SINCE EARLY IN 1992 AND UP UNTIL THIS WEEK I'VE BEEN FEELING PRETTY ISOLATED. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO TALK TO ONE OF THE COMPU-SERVE CUSTOMER SERVICE PEOPLE WHO'S FATHER JUST HAPPENED TO HAVE AN AMIGA AND THAT'S WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT AMIGA WORLD IS STILL BEING PUBLISHED ( I HAVE 30 OLD COPIES ). NOW THAT I HAVE JOINED COMPU-SERVE, I'M HOPING THAT SOMEONE WILL BE KIND ENOUGH TO GIVE ME SOME TIPS ON WHAT I CAN DO IN A FEW SPECIFIC AREAS. I AM SOMEWHAT NEW TO THE AMIGA BUT NOT COMPLETELY IN THE DARK. MY FATHER PASSED THIS DOWN TO ME AND HE'S STILL AROUND TO HELP OUT BUT -'NT REMEMBER ALOT OF THE DETAILS. SO, HERE ARE SOME OF THE QUESTIONS I COULD USE SOME HELP WITH . 1. I HAVE THE MAC. DISK DRIVE AND AMAX 2 HARDWARE/SOFTWARE. I HAVE IT HOOKED UP AND HAVE RUN SOME OLDER MAC STUFF THAT MY BROTHER ( "MR. MAC" ) GAVE MY DAD BACK IN 1991. WHAT CAN I DO TO UPGRADE TO THE POINT WHERE I CAN USE CURRENT MAC. SOFT- WARE ? 2. IF THERE IS UPGRADES TO THE ABOVE, WILL THEY FACILITATE MY BEING ABLE TO USE COMPU-SERVE AND AMERICA ON LINE SOFTWARE ? 3. I'VE GOT DIGI-VIEW GOLD, DIGI-PAINT AND TRANSFER 24, THE PANASONIC CAMERA AND STAND. I HAVE DONE SOME INTERESTING WORK BUT I'M GETTING MORE AND MORE INTERESTED IN 3-D AND ANIMATION SOFTWARE, WHAT PROGRAMS ARE OUT THERE IN WHICH I WOULD BE ABLE TO USE DIGITIZED IMAGES ( WITH A 42 MEG. XETEC HARD DRIVE AND 6 MEGS. OF RAM ) ? WELL THAT'S JUST A FEW OF MY HUNDREDS OF QUESTIONS FOR RIGHT NOW. ANY HELP THAT ANYONE CAN OFFER WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED, THANK YOU !

Brian, Please do not post your messages in all capital letters, it is very hard to read. Sorry, but I can't help you with your questions, but I am sure someone can. ._ _ _ INTERNET: mshea@math.arizona.edu | | |ichael _>hea COMPUSERVE: 76665,3360

BH <<HAVE THE MAC. DISK DRIVE AND AMAX 2 HARDWARE/SOFTWARE. […] WHAT CAN I DO TO UPGRADE TO THE POINT WHERE I CAN USE CURRENT MAC. SOFTWARE ?>> First, stop using ALL CAPS. In telecomunications that is the way a user signals that he is SHOUTING. I assume you have the AMAX-II emulator. I believe these can only use the 128K ROMs from the MAC Plus series, limiting you to B&W Mac emulation. I believe you can upgrade the MAC OS to any version that supports the 128K ROMs. A later version of the emulator (Amax-II Plus) uses a Zorro-II card (instead of diskdrive adaptor) allows full color. You might want to consider upgrading the Amiga's OS. Version 3.1 of AmigaDOS has been released, and can be ordered through the Amiga magazaines (like Amiga World, and Amazing Amiga). – Ron. Adding to what Brian said about upgrading your Amiga OS to a current version, I'll suggest that you get a much larger hard drive (and more memory) if you are planning on doing graphics work. If you really want to get involved in 3-D rendering and animation you will also want to seriously consider picking up an accellerator for your Amiga. The A-Max II emulator will also run much more quickly. I switched from A-Max MAC emulation to Emplant (Utilities Unlimited) awhile ago so that I could use system 7 stuff, have a color MAC and have serial and scsi ports that can make use of current MAC hardware and software. What version of the AmigaOS is your 2000 currently running?
