You just don't get it do you? Your 2000 supports 8MB of expansion RAM and
that's it. The Spectrum card has either 1MB or 2MB of video ram that has
to be mapped into that area. Any other board that has to map memory into
that area, like CBM's own Bridgeboard, needs to have a 2MB chunk of memory
area in your 2000 as well. If you already have your 2000 full with 8MB of
Fast ram, where are these boards going to fit their memory? This is not a
limitation of the Spectrum but of the 2000 itself.
If you buy an accelerator that has the capability of adding 32-bit RAM on
the board, then you can completely remove your 8MB, or just a portion, of
16-bit Fast memory and use the accelerators 32-bit memory capability. This
not only frees up the memory area required for boards like the Spectrum,
but increases the speed of your 2000 considerably.
I remember reading the thread between you and GVP and I don't recall the
GVP Tech being rude or trying to evade questions. He was just trying to
let you know the limitations of the 2000's memory system and what you had
to do to make your Spectrum work.
If indeed you are as good as a consultant you claim to be, then you should
learn the capability and limitations of a system. Apparently with the 2000
you have not done your homework. Now, there are solutions available to do
what you want, all you have to do is remove 2MB of your 2000's memory,
purchase an accelerator and use 32-bit memory, or upgrade to a 3000 or
4000. Getting an accelerator or upgrading would provide other benefits
besides just allowing you to use your Spectrum.

I realize this is no longer on topic with the header but
Question: I have a CSA with 16mb of 32 bit, 2mb chip and 4mb on a Trifecta
scsi board. My problem is that the boot up loads up the 16bit memory first
and I end up running everything in 16 bit memory. I don't want to pull the
16 bit stuff because it is disk cache.
Any way to force the machine to load 32 bit memory first? I have read my
CSA install books and ICD books and nothing tells me how to do that…or
if it did I missed it.

Tom: For some reason your Trifecta board has a higher memory priority than
your CSA card. I know some accelerators came with software to set the
memory priority so the 32-bit memory would get loaded first, so you might
check your CSA disk to see if they provided anything like that. If not, I
remember a program called MemPri, or something like that, that is in the
public domain. You might find it here on CIS, if not, let me know and I'll
upload it.
