One exception. I have numerous works in my library by authors who are
"criticizing" statements made those they don't agree with, quoting "word for
word" up to maybe two paragraphs from copyrighted books giving page number and
title of book without permission of the authors. Although those they critique
wish they wouldn't, this is certainly acceptable and legal even without
permission of those writers. Certainly, photocopying an entire page from a
copyrighted book would go beyond what would stand up in court.
Obviously, these critical writers are not "stealing" copyrighted writings, only
using them for the purpose of proving a point or documentation. The trick is
"how far can you go?" One or two short paragraphs is within reason.
