I do videos only as a hobby. I want to edit Hi-8 video and get near-Hi-8
output. After a few weeks of reading messages in this forum, I have concluded
that it would take too much money ($20,000 for FAST Video Machine or equiv.
plus $10,000 for a new computer with big fast drives) to do this with
non-linear editing.
I have a fantasy… for under $1000 (O.K. — $1500) can I get system which
will control "non-professional" equipment and allow me to edit video clips, add
special transition effects (dissolves, wipes), add title overlays and also edit
the sound? In other words, I want to do computer controlled linear editing,
and utilize my computer (66/486, 1 Gig IDE drive) for special effects.
Any advice is welcome.
Hi Matthew,
Studio Magic will do what you want but will only do wipes and fades from
computer generated graphics. Basically, it can do cuts-only between video
takes and transitions between video and graphics. Titles are no problem. What
it does best is special effects. What it can do to the video itself is quite
amazing. By March they should have machine control integrated. Its a little
fancier than Video Director. You can reach SM at 408 378 3838. I believe by
the end of this year, they will have a product out which is similar to Video
Machine-lite but cheaper.
