I have an Adaptec 2940 SCSI 2 controller in my Pentium 90. I have a Micropolis 1936AV 3gig drive attached and I am using Adaptec's beta of their 32 bit access drivers. I am using this setup to capture an edit video. I have a couple of question on how I can best tweak my drive/controller combo: 1. After I installed the 32bit drivers, when I go to virtual memory in control panel (BTW I am using Windows for Workgroups) the 32bit drive access box is grayed outand the 32bit file access box is checked. The installation for the drivers says that they only work on drives that are bios controlled. I have a Western Digital 1gig IDE drive that is bios controlled by the computer, but it doesn't give my the option to us 32bit drive access on that drive. Do they mean bios of the computer? Will my IDE drive not work? 2. Is there a benefit to having 32bit file access and not drive access? Do you only see big performance gains with both? I tried to change my swap file to my Micropolis drive but could still only get 32bit file access. I guess that is because that drive isn't bios controlled. 3. Write Cache – enabled? Disabled? for best performance. If enabled, best size? 4. Finally, I have my 3gig drive split into two 1gig partitions. Is this acceptable or does it matter? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
