I was asked to post this by a client of mine, since he is not connected to CIS. He is looking for a easy solution to process off-line work copies of master material for regional commercials, which will then be used for on-line editing. He has both a PowerMac and PC system, but prefers to use the PC platform as the Mac is usually tied up doing pre-press catalog and advertisement work. His basic scenario is this. The original material is shot on Betacam, where off-line VHS copies are made with time code window dubs. He then wants to transfer the clips he is interested in onto disk on the PC, and use premiere to put together an off-line version of the final commercial. He would also want to be able to export an EDL that can be used for the on-line editing on the Avid or Fast systems. He is currently use paper EDL's, and wants to get away from that to allow more creativity, and also being the off-line process in house so he have more creative input to the final commercial. He tried to install a DC1tv card, but there was a conflict with the board and his motherboard chipset, so it would not work at all. We spent all day yesterday trying everything in the work to get the DC1tv board to work, and even the manufacturer finally just had to give up on it. Anyway, he is looking into the same class of equipment as the DC1tv board. The specs arent that high, all he wants is 15 to 30fps, at 320×240 resolution. Any recommendations?
