In our infant company, my girlfriend, who has 2D art talent and skill, is planning to learn 3D graphic (titles) and animation for moving titles, backgrounds (rendered 3D), and objects (plane, ship etc.) The ultimate endpoint is for interactive media, althought good looking 3D titles my be used in my video products as well. We are Mac based. We've currently thought of InfiniD, Strata Studio Pro, Virtual VR, KPT Bryce, Logomotion, as possible programs to use. Anyone have thoughts on any of these as a starting point? I have also heard rumors that Lightwave 3D may come to the Mac Platform soon. Any comments from Amiga users as to learning curve? Any other programs/suggestions to consider? Thanks for the help. Reg, While I believe that there are probably some very good 3D applications already available on the MAC, I will tell you that if Lightwave 3D does come out it will be a very good choice. The learning curve is virtually non-existant. They include "macros" like "text" that will create your object from a postscript font, create various attributes like beveling, assign surfaces to polygons, and then all you have to do is color it and animate it. It just couldn't get much easier (and include the power). Lightwave's layout screen is very easy to use and gorgeous animation is a snap. -John

Lightwave isn't scheduled to be ported to the mac anytime soon. But from playing Myst, I have become quite impressed with Strata Pro. Never used it, but would like to if given the opportunity. Lightwave is extrememly easy to learn. You can start animating right away, and learn as you go. The renderer produces outstanding quality. Just my .02 Steve S.G. Bailey Image Dynamics, Inc.

Thanks for the input. Regarding lightwave's coming to the Mac–I read somewhere that there was the high possibility that sometime this year it would be ported both to the Mac and PC to increase market share.(Because of the loss of new Amiga sales). I don't know if anyone else has heard more, but from the two answers here so far, it sounds like Lightwave would be the best way to go if available. Any other thoughts?

It's coming out for sure for the PC (Windows, WindowsNT (MIPS & ALPHA versions)) sometime during this quarter. I also heard a rumor of the next revision being available by 4th quarter 95. Perhaps a Mac port will be available through that revision. Only time will tell… As far as it being the best way to go, yes I agree. I work with it everyday. If you have specific questions…. Also, check out the Newtek section of the AmigaVend forum. Since 4.0 is near release, there is (and will be) much discussion about the software, expecially regarding rendering times with different systems, new features, etc. Later. S.G.
