#Digital E-mail to TV

I am a novice, and I am not sure that my question belongs here, but we'll see.
Can I take a video, put it in some digital format(Maybe like LaserDiscs) that
it could be transferred through e-mail, then when I receive the email, send it
to a television. I would like to be able to do this without too much expense
on the RECEIVING end? If so, what hardware would I need and at what
cost(ballpark)?

Hello Jeff,
yes it is possible to digitize Video, compress it and send it via e-mail. In
"near broadcast quality" you'd get about 200 MB per minute. Using a 14400 Baud
Modem one minute will take about 30 hours to send…

I send video e-mail and messages all the time. Albeit my video files are
Quicktime. TV takes a lot more doing and it would be more universal to mail
VHS tape to Mr. & Mrs. Mortal America.
I send 320X240, 8fps, 8bit 5khz mono audio, compressed with Cinepak at 50-55KPS
data limiting. Frame 1 is always my banner with title, from & to, etc. The
last 2 frames are my trailer and sig <if I decide to add one>. A 10 second
message compressed with stuffit is around 340K which transmits <America Online
at 19.2> in less than 5 minutes. A 30 second message can often be squeezed
onto a 1.4m floppy and mailed.
Once you get into this, you'll realize that 30 seconds on camera is a long time
for a message. It takes some planning to use the time wisely. But if a
picture is worth 1,000 words, a movie is worth millions. You can 'show and
tell' things in seconds that would take you forever to explain at your
keyboard. And forever to read on the receiver's end. And believe it or not,
you can easily create a really boring 30 second message that seems like it goes
on for an eternity. <smile>
