John, unfortunately you are not right. VIDEO CD uses the MPEG-1 format, but the MPEG stream is not stored as standard ISO9660 file. The MPEG stream(s) are stored in XA-FORM 2 Blocks. Therefore so much CD-ROM drives are having problems with VIDEO-CD's. The contents of these Blocks is defined in the WHITE BOOK specification. On the CD, there is a ISO9660 file system, so the first impression is that this is a standard (YELLOW BOOK) CD-ROM. But it isn't. It is a XA disc. The MPEG stream(s) can be referenced from within the ISO file structure. There is a directory MPEGAV on the CD. In that directory you will find files like AVSEQ01.RAW, AVSEQ02.RAW etc. These are the MPEG clips. You will find also a CDI directory on the CD. Here are files for the CD-i Application (Player). You can add your own files and directories here, you can e.g. put an application for a PC here (it works, i've done in some projects). The WHITE BOOK specification says that it is possible to put here applications for other plattforms, like AMIGA CD32. It should work, but I have tested it only with CDi and PC. I mean I can play VIDEO CD's with my old 386/33 with an Sigma Reel Magic and an SONY CDU-33A. For creating (writing) a VIDEO CD you would need a special tool, because some files are to be positioned to fixed sectors on a CD – for compatibility with VIDEO CD players.
