Im making a jar with a label on it. Im using a bitmap of the label with a black background as a texture and the the same image with alpha as an opacity map. It shows a label with a transparent background in the materials ed. and renders fine in 3ds. In Rayman the background is not transparent, the whole object is black with a label. Ive read the manual and I cant figure out what Im missing on using alpha for transparency.

Ed, RayMan doesn't support the alpha source switch for opacity maps. For textures 1 + 2 alpha is supported. However with a transparent material this would result in a nearly transparent label. It shouldn't render black. Maybe you have to increase the TraceLevel (depends on situation but should be >5 here). You have to create an RGB source opacity map, i.e. extract the alpha channel from your file. You can do this with video post. Render your label image and use it also as an alpha mask. Then choose 'render alpha' and 'split alpha'. Configure the same resolution as your image and an aspect of 1.0. The A_LABEL.TGA will be your RGB opacity map. If you choose TGA, don't compress it.

Hello Stefan <RayMan doesn't support the alpha source switch for opacity maps.> I think this or any other special instructions for using Rayman with 3ds files should have been documented in the manual. <You have to create an RGB source opacity map> OK I can do this . The reason I like to use alpha is it keeps the number of files that need to be accessed for the material down, but an RGB mask should work just as well. Are there any other 3ds features that require special handling in Rayman? Im already aware that IPAS and animation is not supported. Im impressed by the results Im getting so far. Thanks for your help.

Ed, <<I think this or any other special instructions for using Rayman with 3ds files should have been documented in the manual.>> Right. <<Are there any other 3ds features that require special handling in Rayman? Im already aware that IPAS and animation is not supported.>> We'll upload a complete feature list in a few days. Regards, Stefan
