A WORM, at least in the sense that Ed used it is a Write Once, Read Many
device, and usually refers to an optical disk device that allows writing to the
disk. Due to the nature of the changes on the disk's surface during the writing
process, it may only be written once, but may be read as many times as you
want.

Good description of a WORM. The one we are offering now is
an 800 Megabyte unit that uses removeable optical disks for storage.
It looks like a fat Sony CD Player and stores 800Meg on a cartridge.
How else would you back-up our 760 MEG Hard Drive. By the way,
the total package (760 Meg drive and 800 Meg WORM) costs about
$12,000.00.
Ain't cheap, but if you need it, it is really a bargain.
