dBMan has been very highly recommended to me by a couple of developers
whose word I had reason to trust. I also have spoken with the developer,
and he seems very responsive to user needs. Although I haven't used it
myself (I got knee-deep in clipper), I've always felt it would be well
worth looking into. It was recommended to me particularly because of its
development environment. My question: is it available for the amiga?? Since
your question's in this sig, I wonder…

Yes, dBMAN is available for the Amiga. I have a copy of it myself. It does
seem to work very nice. I especially like the way it explains the errors.
Although I do have one MAJOR complaint. It has no text editor built in.
The ads as well as the manual say it is compatible with dBase II and III,
well, both of those programs have their own Wordstar-command compatible
text editor. And for someone who writes a lot of lengthy programs this is a
real pain. Every time you want to work on the program or correct any of the
many errors every programmer wanders upon you have to exit dBMAN and then
go into your word processor, load the program, edit it, save it, close out
of the word processor. Then you load dBMAN again and run the program and
hope that there are no errors, otherwise you get to do it all over again.
But other than that, I think it is great! Ava good one…
Chris… I am the original one with the question, so don't mind me for
butting in. One other thing that I heard (at least with the demo), it
doesn't support the DIR command? Is this true? If it doesn't, then it
isn't fully dBase III compatible, and I wonder what other commands it
doesn't support? Thanks..;.
Ooops, sorry I got you mixed up. Anyways, I just brushed through my dBMAN
manual and found no DIR command. Oh well. Now that I think of it, I
believe dBMAN is only 96% compatible. Ava good one…

I don't have dBMAN, so can't comment on it's specifics, but I do _a lot_ of
dBASE III programming and don't use their editor at all so that isn't a big
deal to me.
However, I'm curious…this is a multi-tasking machine we have here, is
there a particular reason why you can't have both your editor and dBMAN
available at the same time? Just switch screens rather than load and
re-load etc the 2 programs. With the multi-tasking, all you would have to
do is load and save source with the editor and switch screens to dBMAN and
DO <program>…if you locate an error, switch screens again, load source
fix and keep going. don
