Sorry, facts be facts. A Mirage in a computer beats 4 DAC's with DMA going through a 7.5KHz lowpass filter! I'll risk the virtual bricks, being more devoted to the truth than to brand loyalty! Don't know for sure about UART speeds on the IIgs…how fast is AppleTalk, 'cause it'll handle THAT, I know.

Chris, Yeah, yuck to the lowpass filter. 7.5Khz, well… that sucker starts rolling off at around 4K if I remember correctly… 7.5K is just the "way down" point… don't recall what the 3 db point was, but it's pretty pitiful. <Sigh> We have to do something about that. As to the earlier comment, note that I was not commenting on the correctness or incorrectness of your remark… only on your bravery or foolhardiness in making it here! 8)
