Do You Know Colour?

Do you like a challenge? Need a change of scenery? After dabbling for over a year, I'm ready to take a big whack at total desktop con-tone. If MacWeek can do it, so can the rest of us. We have a 96 page 4/c catalog to do on Feb 1. We routinely do this kind of stuff DTP, but we run the seps out to film minus 98% of the con-tone. This time I want finished, one piece film out of the specially prepared imagesetter. The client trusts us, and we have or are ready to buy everything we need to do this job. But I need a colour expert. I think that someone with conventional scanner experience will be needed on site to help us zero in on seps & colour correction. Here's the plan: I've lined up a number of production specialists from around the country. I've got a Mac-saavy AD who also has extensive knowledge of prep & printing. A pro photographer who knows how to shoot for print in 35mm. A top Mac compositor. A hardware tech and a software tech. I think I'm set with a good typographer. The deal is each of these people takes about ten days off. Everybody works for free to get this job going. (Wait! Don't go away yet.) We're flying everybody to our location in Maui, and paying for a hotel on the beach. I'd like to bring in a colour guru. Anyone interested? Want to nominate a co-worker? it's a bit unusual. But we aren't stupid and we aren't kidding. I've done my homework, and expect this to be an experience which will promote valuable inter-trade cross-pollination. — David Lynn
