ACAD & HP LJ II Drawing

For some time now I have been using ACAD with a Hewlett Packard LJ II, creating the drawings on 8.5 x 11.0 inch paper and then visiting my local photocopy place and simply expanding them to 11 x 17 inches for submittal to building departments, etc. where the need arises. Has anybody done the same? And, if so, to what degree have you experienced loss of "scalability" of the drawing (i.e. to what extent does the photocopy cause distortion of scale). The other interesting exercise I have found is where to plot the origin (lower left corner) on a 8.5 x 11 inch drawing so as to most properly center the drawing, which produces a symmetrical enlargement. This has been much trial and error. Does anybody have some time-tested secret formulae they would be willing to share?
