Hi folks…I'm checking out a Commodore A590 on my Amiga 500…so far it seems to be pretty solid, with the exception of the DIN type power brick to drive chassis connector. When I first got the unit nothing would start up… just a high pitched whistle from the brick. After much cussing I finally pushed the connector in HARD and wiggled…the clouds parted and the thing started spinning and it auto-booted. I have one question…the built-in RAM expansion sockets, according to the preliminary doc that came with the unit, take 256×4 CMOS ram chips. There are warnings up the wazoo not to even think of using NMOS chips. Somebody out there wanna translate?…I know what CMOS is but am not real keen on part #'s and such…does this mean I can't just call up my friendly mail-order chip market and order the 256×4 DRAMs they have listed for twenty-five to thirty bucks or so? Leave it to Commodore to change chip types just as the price of 1 meg x 1 RAM drops below $18. Anyone familiar the the 256 x 4's the A590 uses and/or have leads on a cheap source?
